Remember this when you think you're job sucks...

I have just slept for 20 hour STRAIGHT. How the fuck is that possible?

I’ll tell you how: Work for a straight 50 hours nonstop.

No shit, I was up from Wednesday night to Saturday 1am straight through. If that’s not bad enough, I’m giving 110% to a company that has already decided to replace me with someone cheaper and way less experienced. My boss is building a “Laundry List” against me, the staff are ready to revolt and lynch my boss, and we just did a server patch that threw off our network very badly. After the first 25 hours, I managed to fix everything, but we still have a Blackberry-Email resolution problem. Goddam Microsoft.

Now, mind you, I WAS going to bed at hour 45…But a colleague of mine drug me out to a pub with a couple of my students, and after a few Guinness’s we caught a midnight showing of “300”. (It was excellent, but I’ll do a review of that later.)

So I went to sleep at 1:00 am Saturday morning, and didn’t wake up until my wife woke me at 8:00 Saturday night. My whole body felt like I had gone 10 rounds with Mohammed Ali, and for some reason, I had temporarily lost my voice. (?)

Bah. I need to think of another career in something. This killing myself slowly for a bunch of morons is for the frickin’ BIRDS.

Ah, that explains you lack of returning my phone calls. :)

Ah well, I was just going to take you out drinking and it looks like you go that covered anyway.

I know the feeling about your job, the number of times I have contemplated a career change is ridiculous. Unfortunately this is the only thing I know how to do that pays reasonably well.

*sigh*

Hang in there man. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

That laryngitis thing's been going around; Todd's had it for a couple of weeks, half the people at my office have had it or still have it.

On the other hand, it could be just from not sleeping for three days.

Blackberries? Email problems? Why, you must have been dealing with all the little giggles and bits of good cheer surrounding the Daylight Savings Time patches.

Lucky for me, I've got a staff of 11 engineers that helped me to keep that under control. Of course that still doesn't control the expectations of 25,000 sheeple. My sympathies on your lack of sleep.

I was indeed, Tony. Still am. RIM service has been teh Suxx0r all through this, and every call is another lobotomized tech with his head up his ass. If you have any advice (Other than the useless "Set send as" tool from BBerry, and "Make BBAdmin your single domain admin in Active Directory") I would welcome it.

Other than that, do you need another tech? I'm pretty good...!

That's hectic Bobbe. I used to do the same old crap for a living... I racked up 3 months of overtime hours as leave - in only 8 MONTHS!

Of course they don't pay it out as cash, and you can't take the time off...

I can relate to your last couple of posts - been there.

Maybe time to move on and freelance or something. I still kinda miss it sometimes though.

I'd welcome a good engineer when I have an opening. You'd have to move to Iowa though... And most people can't find it on a map.
