Spetsdods

Sorry to burst your bubble, but...

They don't exist. I think that needs to be stated right out the gate. Spetsdods are a fictitious weapon used primarily by a non-existent group of highly trained intergalactic bodyguards called Matadors who practice a fake martial art called Sumito. All of this is entirely the work of author Steve Perry. You can find his blog in the sidebar to the right. You can find his books on Amazon.com. (Personally, I recommend "The Trinity Vector").

If you're looking for the short story I wrote with Perry's editorial guidance, it's called "Razor Games" You can find it HERE instead of scrolling through months of back posts. If you're looking for the editorial on how the story came to be, you can find it HERE.

That's all you'll find on my blog about Spetsdods. There's a lot on here about Perry himself, and much of it has to do with mud-slinging, but nothing else on Spetsdods, Matadors, or Sumito.

So, whoever in the U.K. that keeps scanning my blog about 5011 times a day looking for Spetsdods, I hope this helps. I don't mind the keyword search, no skin off my nose, but this might help you save time in the future.

I have been approached a couple times over the years by folks interested in the idea of making such weapons. First one, an engineer who is also a talented artist, had a set of plans for design and tooling up that he did for a lark. Couple-three million and we'd be rolling.

Most recent guy exchanged a couple of emails about it with me and was less ambitious. He just wanted to build one to have, maybe a second one if I was interested.

It could be done, after a fashion. We don't have the plastic flesh, but a tight half-glove could serve as a platform. The power source is also tricky -- the rail gun concept is fun, but the batteries aren't there yet.

Originally, I took apart a CO2 pistol and realized that the working parts were small enough to mount on the back of a person's hand. Somebody handy with tools could make a device using BB's or pellets and the guts of an air or gas pistol.

Another method would be to use a magazine that held tiny pin-fire charges. Check out the flare pistol:

about which I'll speak on my blog.

You'll notice that I didn't use the "s" word in this note, so as not to trip your keyworder ...
